Halloween Craft: Milk Jug Lanterns

This easy and inexpensive craft is sure to add some light to fright night

We’re on a never-ending quest for creative craftiness, especially if we can sprinkle in a holiday twist and use stuff we already have lying around! Last weekend, we scared up some milk jug jack o’ lanterns, and my 4-year-old was absolutely obsessed! He’s been begging for more milk jugs to keep the doodle party going! All you need for this spooktacular fun are some dark markers, empty milk jugs, and a stash of dollar store glow sticks. Let the glowing giggles begin! Here's how:

  • Give those milk jugs a good rinse, and don’t forget to keep the lids! (Our neighborhood social media page was great for sourcing milk and water jugs!)
  • Round up some snazzy markers! Permanent ones are the champs, but if handing those to the kiddos feels like a horror movie, go for acrylic or paint pens.

  • Unleash your inner Picasso! Go wild with your designs—nothing’s off-limits! Just remember, bold dark lines are the secret sauce to make your artwork glow like a superstar!

  • Optional: Fill those jugs with water (great for keeping them sturdy against wind and nosy neighbor pups). Crack a glow stick, toss it in, slap that lid back on, and voila! Your lanterns are ready to dazzle the night away!
